THE PARADOX OF DISTANCE

It is said that the grass is always greener on the other side. Things look perfect when viewed from a distance. From a distance, we see the celebrities as the best; we see the men and women who have made it in life as our models and as such, we envy and desire so much to be like them. We are moved by the paparazzi following the celebrities from a distance.

Many things about life and greatness look great from a distance but we can only gain a good perspective by having a closer look/analysis of such things. Many quick-fix business opportunities look enticing from a distance. You are told to invest $100 and gain $10000 in three days. From a distance, this looks so lucrative and the temptation seems irresistible but a sensible analysis of such businesses would definitely expose the numerous black spots along with the impending dangers. This also applies to even many job opportunities out there. From a distance, the jobs look very enticing and we could virtually take the offers almost with little or no pay, out of our burning desperation. Little wonder many begin to loathe such jobs, days or weeks after they have accepted the offer. They come to the conclusion that, "it is not as I thought after all." At this point, they conclude that they probably made a mistake and begin to desire a way out of the job. In some relationships also, from a distance, the lady/guy looks like the flawless angel but the reverse becomes the case upon a closer interaction. Distance definitely becomes clearer with time.

In this social media and internet age, many end up projecting their fake lives for all to see. They post their 'riches' and display their 'glories' so as to make many believe that that is all their lives is all about. Anchoring one's judgment and decisions only on what one sees on the social media can be terribly misleading. Many have been swindled and traumatized through it.

Distance has a way of 'suspending' our senses. It makes us see the perfection without the flaws; the best without the worst; the gains without pains; the success without the failures and the rewards without the sacrifice.

One of the best ways of handling things from a distance is by taking a holistic and 'reverse look' at the opportunities before jumping at them. We are all aware of the aphorism which states that 'all that glitters is not gold.' Many things are not always as true as they appear. If it is too good to be true then it is too good to be true. Do not let anyone rush you into any relationship, business or job offers. Our lives never remain the same after we have taken any decision; we are either made better or worse as a result. Always give things some reasonable time so you can fully understand what is at stake. Also, one good way of easing oneself of unnecessary pressures is to learn to sleep over certain issues. When a situation appears such that you seem so confused as to how to go about it, learn to sleep over it and by the time you wake up, a solution would have been made available unto you. We tend to make mistakes, especially irreversible mistakes when we rush quickly into making decisions. We hardly think right under pressure, so allowing some time helps to clear things out. Taking a 'reverse look' at the situation has to do with analyzing the situation beginning from the end in view; the cause with the effect in view. This will help one in making a better decision.

Another paradox of distance is that there are times when the solution to the things we need is with us and we tend to look for it in distant lands; the answers might be with those close to you but you are drawn to seek answers from those far away; it might be within but you tend to always look without. We refuse to look inwards to develop the potentials within us and we end up hoping that someone, somewhere, someday, sometime, somehow, would come to help us out. Many refuse to take the utmost responsibility needed to move them to their desired place of destiny fulfillment. Let's always endeavor to look within, the answer you have been longing for might just be by the corner.

In all, distance should not be a barrier but a guide in leading us to making right and timely decisions.
